Cover of the book titled "Before We Fall" by Arden Coutts, featuring illustrations of a distraught woman with long red hair and a woman in a blue suit standing behind her, set against a dark background with a globe and a gun icon.

I've always been a passionate reader and writer. I was lucky enough to grow up in a home with a parent that supported and encouraged reading and my imagination. I grew up writing and falling into faraway dreams captured in my notebooks. Reading and writing were my escapes from feeling alone and opened the world to a queer kid stuck in rural Nebraska.

I want to use my writing as a launching point to build a community around queer issues and identities. I hope that it will fill a gap in the industry for people to realize their sexuality and gender later in life and that it gives them hope that they can find love even as they figure out who they are.

Before We Fall

This prequel to Fall Into Midnight introduces readers to Hannah and Gray as they start their journeys to finding and falling for each other.

Hannah is an ER doctor that’s just trying to live her life. When her D.A. father’s case throws her life into chaos, she’s unsure who she can trust.

Gray lives for Club Midnight's nightlife until she mixes business with pleasure and gets on her boss’s bad side. There’s no telling what her boss and ex are willing to do to get revenge.

Will they survive long enough to fall?

A person with short, tousled hair and light-colored eyes, wearing earrings, a nose ring, and a labret piercing, smiling slightly, dressed in a T-shirt with 'NO LABEL' text and a dark jacket, in a room with a wooden cabinet.

Because Inclusion and Representation are Important

The world needs more queer and inclusive stories that feature powerful queer characters. I try to write those stories. With a background ranging from archaeology to law enforcement, my stories are global in scope and with diverse characters in all roles. My goal is to help normalize queer dynamic characters as action heroes.
